Together with Google we assess the use of Chromebooks in the education sector. Trends and user experiences provide valuable information for improving the usability of our hardware and software.
Google has identified a trend in the use of Chromebooks in the education system. Teachers use Chromebooks to make learning more accessible and prepare their pupils for the future in which technology and the skills required to use it are essential. In this way, the school does not only function as the conveyor of facts and theories, but more importantly a place where pupils acquire communication, reflection and research skills.
This trend has lead to an increase in the intensive deployment of Chromebooks and G Suite in schools. It offers pupils to collaborate closely and learn from each other effectively. “Partners like Prowise, in collaboration with UK IT operators and teachers, have stimulated the transition which has created an ecosystem of tools that expands the functionality of the G Suite admin console and the G Suite for Education user experience for pupils and Chromebooks”, says Grainne Rietveld, Head of Northern Europe / Google for Education Northern Europe, Google for Education.
80 million users
Market analyst Futuresource reported that Chromebooks were the most frequently purchased device in 2018 in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Chromebooks are also market leaders in terms of sales in classrooms in New Zealand, Canada and the United States. “Today, 80 million teachers and students are using G Suite for Education worldwide. At the same time, Chromebooks open the door to a world of possibilities for another 30 million students for during and after class.”
