When you reset your Chromebook to factory settings, all information on your hard drive, including the files in the “downloads” folder, will be erased.
Reset a personal Chromebook
You can reset your Chromebook by using shortcut keys or by using the settings menu.
Option 1: reset with shortcut keys
- Sign out of your Chromebook.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R simultaneously.
- Click ‘Restart’ to restart your Chromebook.
- Click ‘Reset’ in the box that appears.
- Log in with your Google Account.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Your Chromebook is now reset to it’s factory settings.
Option 2: Reset by using the settings menu.
- Log in to your Chromebook.
- Click on the status area (bottom left), where your account picture is displayed.
- Click on ‘Settings’ and subsequently on ‘Show advanced settings’.
- In the ‘Powerwash’ section, click ‘Powerwash’.
- Click ‘Restart’ in the box that appears.
- Log in with your Google Account.
- Follow the instruction on the screen.
- Your Chromebook is now reset to it’s factory settings.
*Important! The account you login with after resetting your Chromebook will be the owner account.
Reset a work or school Chromebook
When you use a Chromebook which is being managed by an administrator, for example at work or at school, you should let the administrator erase the data on your Chromebook and re-enroll the device on your work- or school network.
