How do I reset my Chromebook to factory settings?

When you reset your Chromebook to factory settings, all information on your hard drive, including the files in the “downloads” folder, will be erased.

Reset a personal Chromebook

You can reset your Chromebook by using shortcut keys or by using the settings menu.

 

Option 1: reset with shortcut keys

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R simultaneously.
  3. Click ‘Restart’ to restart your Chromebook.
  4. Click ‘Reset’ in the box that appears.
  5. Log in with your Google Account.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  7. Your Chromebook is now reset to it’s factory settings.

 

Option 2: Reset by using the settings menu.

  1. Log in to your Chromebook.
  2. Click on the status area (bottom left), where your account picture is displayed.
  3. Click on ‘Settings’ and subsequently on ‘Show advanced settings’.
  4. In the ‘Powerwash’ section, click ‘Powerwash’.
  5. Click ‘Restart’ in the box that appears.
  6. Log in with your Google Account.
  7. Follow the instruction on the screen.
  8. Your Chromebook is now reset to it’s factory settings.

 

*Important! The account you login with after resetting your Chromebook will be the owner account.

Reset a work or school Chromebook

When you use a Chromebook which is being managed by an administrator, for example at work or at school, you should let the administrator erase the data on your Chromebook and re-enroll the device on your work- or school network.
