It is not possible to install existing software on your Chromebook. Chromebook work from a browser platform and do not support other software. In the Chrome Web Store you can download applications and extensions which are supported by your Chromebook.
In order to gain access to certain programs and software you can use the ‘Chrome remote Desktop’ application. With this application it is possible to connect online to another computer and control the software on this computer with your Chromebook. It is also possible for another computer to control your Chromebook if you grant access. This connection works on all operating systems (eg. Windows, Mac, Linux and Android) and is wireless, you only require an internet connection. It is important to install the ‘Chrome remote Desktop’ extension on both devices. You can download this extention at chrome.google.com/remotedesktop or by using the Chrome Web Store.
When you open this extension you can choose from:
- “Share this computer for another user to see and control”
- Click “share” to generate the access code. When you verify this number on the other device, the sharing session starts.
- “See and control a shared computer”
- Click “access” and fill in the access code to start the sharing session and gain access to the other device. The access code is generated on the other device.
