Budel – The FutureNL Foundation and Prowise will join forces to improve the digital skills of Dutch pupils and have identified technology to be a key factor in the education sector. More specifically, the collaboration means that lessons by FutureNL, based on the curriculum of Digital Literacy, will be converted to our free education software Prowise Presenter.
The FutureNL Foundation aims to get all pupils and students in the Netherlands acquainted with technology to provide them with crucial skills in order to prepare them for their future careers. Together with Felienne Hermans from the University Leiden and Public Education Groningen, FutureNL has created the educational curriculum Digital Literacy. This is based on the curriculum frameworks of the national knowledge centre that specialises in the development of the curriculum of primary, special and secondary education in the Netherlands. The curriculum has four strands: Computational thinking, basic IT skills, Information skills and Media skills.
Each strand offers multiple lessons with a to-do list of digital tasks, such as creating a vlog or a hologram on your phone. Each exercise improves the learning objectives formulated in the curriculum Digital Literacy, one or multiple of the 21st-century skills and are always linked to the learning objectives of the current subjects. This allows for versatile teaching. Since digital skills will be included as a part of the standard curriculum in 2022 for primary and secondary education in the Netherlands, the FutureNL Foundation is already heavily invested in providing teaching material for juniors and seniors in primary school and even secondary education.
Incredible educational content
“The collaboration with the FutureNL Foundation enriches our teaching material with incredible educational content on important subjects such as Computational thinking and Information skills”, says Bianca Ahrens, Education Director at Prowise. “The collaboration with Prowise gives us the opportunity to reach a large group of teachers and pupils. The possibilities that Presenter can offer allows us to deploy our lessons more broadly and interactively. Since we agree on the same education vision, that is the importance of digital educational material and skills, we strongly believe in a successful collaboration”, says Ronilla Snellen, co-founder and director of the FutureNL Foundation.
