CodeWise – Teach pupils how to program

When you first think of programming you might think about complicated programming codes which you and your pupils have no interest in. Let us introduce you to the CodeWise programming tool and the CodeWise card game! This will allow you to teach children the beginning of programming in a fun and interactive way.

The CodeWise card game

By using the CodeWise card game pupils can learn how to ‘program’ each other. You can find an assignment on each card such as: sing a song, jump, stand up/sit down or move forward.

Groups of pupils can create a programming code together in a fun and interactive way by placing the cards in a certain sequence. The code can be checked by a different group. The game can also be conducted by two pupils.

Energy and enthusiasm will spill over to the pupils!

The CodeWise programming tool

Inside Prowise Presenter you can find the CodeWise tool which you can use to write a code digitally. First, have your pupils choose their favourite character and background.

You can let them create their own code or give them assignments. Drag and drop the actions to the code field on the right-hand side to write the code.

Press the start button to run the code.

You really have to put yourself into the mind of the character to figure out which way he or she is heading to. Does the character stop walking or does it encounter a false location? Maybe you missed a step in your programming code? For example; a character which is sitting down can not continue to walk without standing up.

Drag and drop an action into the bin if you would like it to be removed from the code or simply drag it to a different position within the code if you wish to make a change. Use the blue arrows if you wish for your character to go to the start or end position of the code.

How to combine the CodeWise tool with the card game

By using the CodeWise tool in combination with the card game you can create an even more interactive learning experience.

Have you written a code by using the CodeWise tool on your digiboard? Program the same code by using the cards. Conduct the code and check if your actions are the same as the character in the CodeWise tool.
